The agent that cancels your subscriptions

Two days ago we wrote about a test that asks your AI to read your tax returns. The same creator is now on a new challenge: let Meta's personal agent, Muse, find and cancel your forgotten subscriptions. He says it found over five thousand dollars and cancelled about 1,285 for him. The challenge began with Meta's chief AI officer asking whether Muse could make you a thousand dollars.

In favour
  • Forgotten subscriptions are a real leak in most households, and the agent can also compare insurance, chase refunds and hunt discounts, then act on what it finds.
  • There is a sensible safeguard: you approve the total in the chat before it pays, and the bank connection is made through Plaid only when you choose to connect an account, with the connections manageable in the Plaid Portal.
Worth watching
  • To do it, Muse reads your money: four Plaid products, transactions, investments, liabilities and balances. That is the most complete picture of a life most of us have, and the company asking for it earns its living from advertising. That proves nothing about what it will do; it is part of what you weigh.
  • As The Next Web noted, none of the savings in the challenge thread come with independent before-and-after figures, and many posts came from Meta's own staff. That does not make them false. It makes them claims.
Our takeIf you try it, use the controls that exist: connect one account rather than all of them, keep the approval step on, check the Plaid Portal and revoke when you are done. And ask the question from the tax-return post: is this a test of how smart the assistant is, or of how far you let it in?
